Theme: Humility

Flashback

On the hillock I stand
Eyeballing the farm we nurtured
Recalling games we played, my brother and I
While our parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins
Tilled and sowed and reaped our land
Gratifying pleasure writ large in their gait
Satisfying our demanding desires
Oh! It was such a fulfilling experience
One summer morning in the backdrop
The Lord of the rising sun
Shone so bright so hot
Wet with perspiration retired in the shade of the mango grove
Contentment with all we have fell apart
Long years of feud with competing families
Wiped out most of our family
Nowhere to go nowhere to hide
Remaining of us fled in haste
To the impersonal city life
To find succor to dream a future we enjoyed
The hour has come; we are back with a bang
Too high in the ladder for others to compete
The will to win is how we won
One lifetime has taught us humility
Our trump card for life!
