To Work Is To Worship

The angel was preparing his notes
When Raja Bhoj just peeped in
A list was being prepared
Of noble souls who sought the Divine

Come O king and be seated
Angel was kind enough to welcome
Just let me finish this work
Then shall we have talk some

It's all right O dear angel
You continue with your deliberation
I have little time to idle away
The ill and destitute need my attention

Moreover, the list is useless to me
For my name can't be included
In the worldly affairs, I forgot
To worship the Divine; God I excluded

The great saints and sages are aplenty
To give material to complete your job
O noble one I leave in hurry
For I hear the cry of despair in that mob

The king bade farewell fast, and
The angel was engrossed in his writing
Soon the night turned into day
That ended the vision of our king

Next night the angel appeared again
Full of enthusiasm and genuine pleasure
And said to the king mischievously
'Aren't you interested in the list, dear'!

Your name figures at the top
O king, your service to poor and destitute
Concern and care for the poor and lowly
Are the highest divine attributes

'To labor is to love
To work is to worship'
That is the message to the world
Your life of sacrifice gives, my Lordship!
