She Was Pregnant

Heavy with child, she walked on the road,
Bulging belly defining itself, she moved,
Very much pregnant -
Mind pregnant with the bounties
of the beautiful baby growing inside her.
Thousand plans of welcome -
Pink room full of toys
Mickeys, Barbies and Tweeties
hanging with pink curtains.

She walked on,
confident of her clumsy gait,
Naked pride dancing in her eyes -
Eyes pregnant with the wishful sights,
Images of the toddler holding on to flower pots,
Standing by the side of an abacus - counting the beads,
No - sprawled in the garden,
Soiled mouth betraying the games he had played.

She paused, tired from the strain,
Unmindful of people's stare,
Their heavy slangs missing her ears,
Her ears - pregnant with his cooing as he slept,
And cackling of the young one, a toy monkey humming its guitar,
Nursery rhymes playing in the background.

She moved on with gay abandon,
Lightly swaying but careful of her steps
The rhymes giving her a new energy,
A soft smile escaping her full lips
Her lips - pregnant with kisses,
Kisses she would bestow on the young one, her young one -
Her baby was coming,
She was pregnant
