The Wall

It stands tall
covering the clutter behind
the pile I have gathered
over the years...
of pins and needles, pots and pans

It stands still
masking my worries, my sorrows
hiding the wounds of hurt and spite
shrouding a heap of emotions I stored
encasing the pool of tears I cried

It stands strong
backing the burden beyond
stacks of books, stories untold
battered lyrics, my unsung melodies
reels and rolls of theatrics I played

It stands gallant
bracing the heat and choking smog
clouds of rising ash, amber spark
from the blazing fire I lit,
an inferno...
burning my mask and masquerade

It stands stressed
of the pressure it holds
like a pack of cards, a glass house
it crumbles...
the wall of pretension I built
to cover my complex, my guilt
