Theme : Love
Two of Five
by Jeffrey Olszewski

Two of five
Only two of five

Can these alone know love
These senses gifted by God or Darwin

So I ask :

If the sound of her voice
Like a tuning fork resting against my heart
Never fails to warm me

And if the mere sight of her
Quickens my pulse
When ever in her vicinity

Is that enough to know?

Must I have lingered over the scent of her shoulder
So unbelievably beautiful in black sleeveless top and pearls
To know that the memory of this
Whenever recalled
Will thankfully be with me until my last breath

Must I have kissed her
To understand what a tender piece of heaven it would be
So ethereal
Each time her lips meet mine

Must we have been eye to eye
All five senses ablaze
To know that when so close
Time stands still
And the moment rules

If my hand has never slid with care
To that singular spot on her back
Can I ever know the wild anticipation
Of what burns below and above

And so I ask again :

For over the years
As I have silently witnessed her passion for life
And a kindness for those less fortunate

The subtle strength in her movements
And in her eyes

And beauty
On a scale never before seen

Maybe it is possible after all
With only sight and sound as my allies
To know love

If it is her that I see
And her voice that I hear
Two of five is just fine.
