Man and Wife
by Archana Shukla

Now I know you are out of my imagination,
I can’t see you when I close my eyes
I can only see work not done, bills not paid,
My daughter crying as I reach home late

It’s not that you have disappeared
It’s just that you have taken a back seat in my thoughts
As priorities change, the relation also changes
from love to understanding from understanding to compromise

I would love to have a chat over a cup of coffee
Ask you how you’ve been, how life has treated you lately
But then my daughter’s homework is more important
I have to drop her to the dance class daily

Kitchen is the only escape where I can be myself
I cook and enjoy my culinary skills
Make a drink for self, enjoying it solo standing in
As that’s the only way I can chill

All of us have a different dinner schedule
Just like morning and afternoon
I end up having it alone
And of course the last one to munch on.

By the time I reach the bed you are in your dreamland
Waking you up is a crime big enough
I just lie down next to you thinking about next day’s work
Clothes to wash, dishes to clean, school fee…..and I doze off !!
