Love and Absence

Years have passed
while memories remain.
A smell of cherry tobacco in the air
swirls of smoke rising from your pipe.
A smile on your face
as you opened my gift
one night.

The snap of sheets catching the wind,
while clothes
dried on the line,
small sculptures in the sun.

The dog at my feet, half-asleep
finished his bowl of food,
the cat, nursed her litter in the shed,
to avoid prying eyes.

But experiences have passed
and people
Vanished
into breezes slapping sheets.

Now I have memories
vignettes of time
supporting me.
