Mother had said

Mushrooms sprout in dark
that sprout in light are venomous
sprouts off serpentine veins
mushroom is to be held gently on fork between lips
to caress to nibble

Love is the light that kindles spark
of consummation

Mushroom sprouted beside bush
parted beam of rays that beamed from sun
sheared surface of earth in grass

Tongue forked, forged serpentine coil
frolicked slyly
engulfed rocks that harbored soil

Love descended, spread hooded sight

Hood is armor
of fangs of tongue of venom
sword that pierces must carry
shield in battle

It was dark then
