Theme : Philosophy
In the Palm of My Hands
by K. Paigankar

Where does it lie, the truth?
Is the secret held by the serpent in the river?
Perhaps the ocean with its hidden depth
May hold the key below its shimmering water.

It is said the sage in the mountain
With his third eye can see things
In his reservoir, beyond the reach of men
Here in the repository of wisdom and knowledge
My search may end if I crawl to the edge
And see the light in the dark well.

The old man in a remote village
Holds court in his hut every evening
Known as the Oracle for his vision
People flock to him such is his acumen
His eyes glint, the sardonic smile mocks me
When I ask him for an answer.

The answer! He laughs out aloud
It is where you least expect to find
The wall of truth is all around you
Its encompassing power overwhelms the few
Who seek an answer to the great mystery.

The mystery is not much of a story.
Look in the inner recesses of your mind
Close your eyes, cast your inhibitions aside
Guided by an inner light, you're ready to receive
The truth is upon you, treat it with care
Hunger is not enough, you must show thirst
Immerse yourself in it, embrace it with your might.

Keep your palms closed, safe are your hands
Side by side, the truth and future lie juxtaposed
In custody of truth I tremble and shiver,
Alone and in pain, overcome by fear.
Truth is dispersed all around me, filling the air
Etched in the palm of my hand
It is laid bare, so pure and rare……..
