The Stare

Why do you stare at me?
Do you sense pain in me 
or is it your own pain unmasked?
I was once proud like yourself 
and now I am a mere shell of yesterday!
But as you look at me, 
you look at yourself!
For one day shortly in another journey 
you will walk the same path as me.
So stare at me 
with love in your heart, not dismay!
You will remember these words 
I sent you in thought,
and when they stare at you 
in tomorrow's to come,
remember to send the same message 
I sent to you today of love.
