Workshop # 13
My
Baby, My Child
My baby, my
child, what will your life be?
As you sit in your chair and gaze up at me,
An inquisitive look, a trusting smile
Lights up your face, you are safe for a while.
You play with my
glasses, worn so many years,
Through them I've seen much, to add to my fears,
for your worldly inheritance seems built on sand,
When the young of the world have no guiding hand.
No heroes to follow,
no right minded knight
Who will take on the challenge to make things right,
Only cheating and fighting, corruption and strife
Are the values that make up the average life.
Grow strong child,
grow good, when I hope you will see
A much rosier picture than has been there for me,
I wish for a leader, strong and true -
who knows, my baby, it could be you.
