V. K. Joshi (Bijji)

Born in Uttaranchal in September 1941, Vijay Joshi worked as a geologist with the Geological Survey Of India for 36 years. During this period he surveyed the country extensively and studied the environments of the pre-historic eras and finally retired as Director, Northern Region, GSI at Lucknow and settled there.Post retirement in September 2001 Vijay Joshi has taken up free lance journalism and using his experience he normally writes about environment and nature related topics. However, sometimes he does pen down satires too. He writes both in English and Hindi and has published more than 2000 articles in all the leading newspapers of India and some leading environmental magazines like Down To Earth and Journal of United Nations Environmental Program.
In the recent past 2011, he wrote six Radio Dramas for Vigyan Prasar on Chemistry, Water and Building Materials. The dramas were played by the All India Radio and well recieved by the audience. Recently, Vigyan Prasar has published his two books on Nuclear Energy and Isotopes respectively.

'Geo-diversity is the cradle of bio-diversity' and he attempts to convey this motto. 


About his blog "DogDom", he has been rearing, breeding and training dogs since 1946 as a hobby which became a passion with him later. Now he tries to pass on whatever he has learnt from dogs to other dog lovers, specially the novice dog lovers. He has been writing a regular column on dogs in Hindustan Times, Lucknow since 1997 and has also written a column in Hindi for Hindustan on the same subject.  Dogs are his passion and he says, 'I think dogs, breath dogs and have almost 'gone to dogs...'
