A retired IAS of West Bengal cadre, an Arts graduate, forced by the government to acquire a PG Degree in a technical subject from a UK University but not allowed to apply his technical knowledge in his work, a man of lazy habits, never wrote a single line till his friend Pradip Bhattacharya compelled him to regularly contribute to the monthly journal of the West Bengal IAS Association, SERVICE, currently contributing to Boloji.com also because of his prodding, immediately before retirement was State Editor, W.Bengal District Gazetteers, in which capacity edited about 30 books one of which is the 5-volume set called Rivers of Bengal.

Recently he has published Rabindranath Tagore: Some poems and Songs - the English renderings of 104 poems and 86 songs of Tagore, many of them done for the first time, covering almost the entire creative life of the poet - from The Kiss of his early youth to The Path of Creation dictated by him shortly before his death.
