Dr. Vijay Mehta

Dr. Vijay Mehta is a board certified general surgeon from Temple Texas. He is the Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Texas A & M Medical School and serves on their admission committee. He is the founder and the president of Gujarati Samaj of Central Texas.

He served on the board of Howard Johnson International from 1996-1999. And in the fall of 1997 embarked upon "Project Power Down" for all Cendant franchisees. The message was simple. United motel owners can not be suppressed for too long.

On October 19, 1999 he started a grass root movement to educate and inspire the south Asian community to register for the national marrow donor program and in case of a match to encourage them to donate bone marrow and save a life. This was done in response to an appeal from Kiran Desai, the father of 14 year old Krupal from Springfield Illinois, whom he had never met before. Now after 27 months of traveling all over this country he has personally registered more than 7840 people and the number of Asians have increased to more than 40,000 from 5000 just few months ago.

When he was invited to be a speaker at the Marriage Information System for Jaina 2001 convention. He suggested to change the name and the mission to Jaina Networking Forum. The article above was written to accomplish that mission of Networking. "Finding a suitable mate for our youth presents a major challenge for the whole community. Time has come to redefine our priorities." he said. While he does not know the answers to many a questions he is sure willing to articulate the problems facing our youth today.

He has been a speaker at SASA 1999 and 2000, Young Jaina Association Convention 2000, Jaina Conference 2001, Leuva Patidar Youth Conference 2001, and several college campuses.

For past several years he has been active with desi youth counseling them on issues ranging from the admission in medical school to identify and deal with problems of growing up in the western world. With his personal experience of counseling more than 160 children he has developed a new understanding of our youth. His new project "Confused Desi:  Who is really confused - Parents or Children?"  The time has come for Desi parents and children to openly discuss the issues of our culture, make proper adjustments in our expectation from our children and empower our youth to make the right choice rather than control them so they will make right choice.

He and his wife Vinoo live in Temple Texas. Vinoo is a staff physician at the Waco V.A. Hospital. Chirag the youngest son attends local college, Parag, the middle son,  is working for Department of Health and Human services, and Daughter resides in Pensacola FL and is a nurse.

He will be posting all his experiences and feed back on this website so we can all learn collectively from this experience. Feel FREE to contact by email or call Dr. Vijay Mehta for any further information guidance, in this regard. He may be contacted at –
