Here are some quirky facts from my son's school diary....for you to see :-)

1. The words racecar and kayak read the same backwards. Such words are called Palindromes.

2. The human head contains 22 bones.

3. The Bible is available in 2,233 languages.

4. The mathematical decimal system was introduced in 4 B.C.

5. There are more than 2,700 languages spoken in the world.

6. The can opener was invented 48 years after cans were introduced.

7. The world's busiest bridge is the Howrah Bridge in Calcutta. It transports 57,000 vehicles a day.

8. Traffic lights were in use before the advent of the motor car.

9. Somalia is the only country in the world where its citizens speak only one language - Somali.

10. A housefly has a lifespan of 14 days.

11. In Denmark there are twice as many pigs as people.

12. There are more chickens than people in the world.

13. A giraffe can clean its ears with its 50cm tongue.

14. The tongue of a blue whale can weigh as much as an elephant.

15. An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain.

16. The world's smallest dog is Chihuahua which means "tiny dog in the sky".

17. The oldest inhabited city is Damascus in Syria.

18. Women make up 49% of the world population.

19. A kangaroo can hop at the speed of approx. 40mph.
