K A Shaji, a  known developmental journalist with over 13 years of journalistic experience, is presently the Chief of Bureau of The Times of India Daily in Coimbatore. Earlier, he was Tamil Nadu correspondent of Open, a features and current affairs magazine of India. Before joining Open, he was a Senior Correspondent with Tehelka weekly magazine in New Delhi and  in Thiruvananthapouram.
 
Shaji was part of The New Indian Express from 2000 to 2006 and worked as its correspondent  in  Kannur, Kozhikode and Bangalore. He is from Wayanad district of Kerala  and has a post graduation in personnel management and industrial relations. He writes regularly on rural distress, farmers suicides, human rights violations, caste atrocities and flawed developmental perspectives. He has Won National Media Fellowship from National Foundation for India in 2005 for Excellence in Journalism.  Later he won Sanskriti National Journalism Award for a series of articles on agrarian crisis that plagued Wayanad.  Shaji writes in both English and Malayalam. He has translated P Sainath's `Everybody Loves a Good Drought' to Malayalam apart from a collection of dramas written by Rabindranath Tagore. He had translated Glass Menagerie of Tennessee Williams and `Harvest of Hate' authored jointly by Swamy Agnivesh and Vatsan Thampu to Malayalam. He is proficient in Tamil as well.
