Girls are No Less than Boys

In today’s world a girl can do everything what a boy can do but still boys are given more importance. In families where a boy is born after another boy it is accepted with so much of happiness, but if a second girl is born she is not accepted with the same excitement and enthusiasm. A girl had to make a lot of sacrifices in the past and things are slowly becoming a little easy for the present generation.

However, a lot more has to be done to improve the lot of the girl child. In poor families and villages a girl is made to sit at home and help in the housework even if she wants to go to school. Even if she is better than her brother in studies she still has to help out while her sibling can roam around freely.

A girl always is asked to adjust and listen to others even if she is right. She cannot go out without taking permission or come home late, but a boy can do whatever he wants to do. Today we can see the society and the people changing after girls have proved themselves. After getting married also a girl has to adjust to her new family and leave her home.

Today girls or can we say women, like Indira Gandhi, Kalpana Chawla, Mother Teresa, Lata Mangeshkar, Kiran Bedi, P.T. Usha and many more have made a niche for themselves with their talent and hard work in different fields of endeavor. We can see so many girls working in big companies and holding important positions in the government. Women are also making news in the field of sports, films, education and defence.

I really feel proud to be a girl and a daughter and thank god for giving me birth in a home where girls are wanted, loved and welcomed. People should understand that yes, girls are no less than boys, and should be treated equally.
