This book under review on The Philosophy of Bhagavadgita is written by a renowned critic and scholar P.V.Laxmiprasad, from Karimnagar, Telangana. It was published by Books Clinic, Bilaspur in 2021. It carries a well-written preface, a quote and dedication to three Indian Philosophers. The contents include four sections of the book 1) Indian Philosophy 2) Philosophy of Bhagavadgita 3) Conclusion 4) Works Cited.

The title of book is centered on the philosophy of Bhagavadgita, the most important element in the highly acclaimed book. The author has explored various beginnings for tracing out philosophy from the Bhagavadgita, a sacred book. He presented different schools of thought and methods to study the philosophy. Indeed philosophy is rooted in fundamental nature of knowledge, reality and existence. Science and philosophy, rational thinking, and quotes of philosophy are succinctly studied and presented.

The quotes Laxmiprasad selected are really gems of knowledge. Philosophy of Bhagavadgita is wonderfully depicted and are of literary merit and justify the spirit of the philosophy. It is a book of 101 pages and strongly echoes the uniqueness of philosophy as found in the Gita. Lord Krishna and Lord Arjun have become ambassadors of this step by step slokas and dialogues. They truly symbolize the greatness of meaning in life and the law of Karma. As stated in the Preface, Laxmiprasad was inspired to listen to the Gita in his school days.

Philosophy is typically of Indian Dharma and principles of honesty and good over bad. The same tempo continues in other Slokas that Bhagavadgita is predominantly known for. The presentation of Slokas is eye-catching and appropriate. He has linked up the Slokas with that of philosophy in a rich diversity. Laxmiprasad brilliantly sums up the philosophy as something “revelatory, revolutionary, universal and eternal and potential and influential. The line by line interpretation of Slokas makes it an enriching and enlightened study.

It must be read by everyone. Knowledge and wisdom flourish in the end. It is replete with marvelous history of mankind and its eternal journey to complete the cycle of Birth-Death and –Rebirth. P.V. Laxmiprasad becomes an authority on ancient Indian scriptures. He is versatile and innovative as he always used to be. This book is a feather in his cap.
