The Force of Violence

I am not quite sure how many of you who read this will accept or agree with the contents; but I have clearly understood that the present-day population is blind and impervious to any type of violence and insult if they are packed in the glamorous package called ‘entertainment’ and ‘cinema’, art, essays, discussion and any form of personal or group expression. Cuss words and abusive language are used in plenty by one and all without shame, without batting an eyelid. The ‘so-called’ rather ‘claimed’ ‘the great Indian culture had gone to dogs and appears only when marriages are performed, and celebrations are created to exhibit their affinity to the non-existent culture. Nevertheless, even in the highly parochial South Indian marriages, we see the bride and groom in North Indian style attire.

For me, the most annoying and disturbing one is the violence and arrogance. I find these most dominant in any matter, be it expressions, essays, articles, comments, both political, normal, and non-political.

The majority of the population, irrespective of age and status, is absolutely ruthless, self-serving, and above all arrogant. I don't have to explain it explicitly. It is evident in every act of theirs. The parents' job today is to earn as much as they can and satisfy the needs of their precious children, whether they can afford it or not. The perennial poor population also today acquired power and chicanery to hoodwink people and earn their share.

But what is most disturbing to me is the shameless glorification of violence both in the news and films. Any film is watched whether it has a story or not, but displays at least a dozen fight scenes, shockingly choreographed, graphically showing the breaking of limbs, spillage of blood, and disfiguring the opponent. All the more disturbing is the violence against women and young girls. The sexual abuse, physical blows and kicks, and slaps are easily, though resounding, but surprisingly swallowed even by women and happily lapped up by the audience.

Westerners who are thorough epicureans never talk of culture, respect for women and children, etc. But today we heard extensive discourses by our media and intelligentsia on them, but continue to perpetrate with little qualms.

Indian culture and philosophy are very cleverly framed.

They call women and children as Gods but treat them like dirt. We quote Kaninan Poongundranaar’s most popular Tamil verse ‘Every place is ours and Everyone is our family,’ with the least shame, but divide and try to rule the public without qualms.

Big and popular actors thoroughly lack a social conscience to indulge in all sorts of vulgar, inappropriate, and violent acts in the name of love and heroism.

Today, at least have the guts to accept that we are followers of Friedrich Nietzsche and not of Adi Sankara or Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
