Once, there was a poignant complaint that popular director Satyajit Ray made films which exhibited the miserable poverty of India and won awards in foreign film festivals and also laurels within the country.
Today, we are thoroughly and excessively fed with escapist movies, even the social messages like caste, creed and religion are camouflaged with less to heavy dosages of spices, though all of them don’t hit the jackpot of success or win awards.
‘Homebound’ seems to be a sincere attempt to highlight the problems of caste, and religion above all, the ever-increasing, shocking and choking Indian population everywhere.
Two young friends from two religions, but in some way considered as outcasts, lead a life of struggle; both want to join the police force. But one fails, and the other succeeds posthumously as he dies of COVID.
What a miserable story! The story thread is said to be real. For me, every scene and frame of this film is shocking and choking, and well. It had won a prestigious award at the Cannes Film Festival.
The players and makers are showered with a lot of appreciation and publicity.
Would you like to feel miserable or totally indifferent, and also a connoisseur of Art, and realistic Films with blatant depiction of the seamy and miserable society and life?
Watch ‘Homebound’. You may like, else if not, better stay away.
