Taskaree: The Smugglers Web

Nail-biting thrillers have become a common feature of all OTT platforms. Some are really engaging and make the viewer sit on the edge of the seat to keenly watch the twists, turns and developments, while many turn damp even after a couple of episodes.

Earlier, I watched Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Special Ops’ and ‘Khakee, the Bihar Chapter’. Both were quite racy and engaging. True, violence was part of both series. His recent addition ‘Taskaree’ deals with smuggling, especially gold and exotic items, which includes, hold your breath, some chimpanzee kids too, through power, money and by knowing the ways of crossing customs with the discreet support of mercenary here without any hitch.

Well, we keep reading about smuggling of gold and other items, like expensive watches, but we never know where they all go later.

It is a big nexus with the connivance of government officials and others here, with their counterparts in foreign countries. A new, young and energetic customs officer is brought to take up the onerous task of controlling the ‘Taskaree’. He creates a group of young officers led by Arjun Meena (Emraan Hashmi), Customs Officer at Mumbai’s Chhatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, which includes a woman also. In fact, they are pitted against a powerful goon known as Bada Choudhary (Sharad Kelkar) operating from abroad.

Women characters are less, and stunts are more. Most of the actions take place even in the opulent airports; however, there were eye-catching visuals of foreign landscapes. Honestly, I was more awestruck by the visuals than the sprinting storyline.

Are you an avid reader of thrillers? You have plenty to watch, provided you are patient enough to watch seven episodes of 45 minutes each.

Streaming on Netflix.
