The Power of Profligacy

I may be wrong. But the fact remains. I may be mistaken. It doesn't matter.

The present days are days of excesses.

Surplus, surfeit, overabundance, superfluity, profusion, overindulgence, immoderation, profligacy, overconsumption….. there are many more words, but I try to be moderate, so I stop here.

Take anything in life.

People want them in excess only. Be it money, food, comforts or property, appreciation, entertainment, publicity, piety, accusation, appraisal, take anything. Everyone wants them in abundance.

So, we have too much of politics, cinema, entertainment, music, communication, competition, writing, publicity, delicacies, hotels, bars and whatnot.

Parallelly, we accuse the growth of wealth and comforts, and too much of poverty also.

Today, I find majority of the people get what they want. But what they actually aspire for is excess. That is not only dangerous but also makes the present life miserable. I cannot find out whether it is poverty or anger or greed or the power of ubiquitous media drive many to indulge in criminal activities. Those are also in excess.

It is true that ‘satisfaction’ or ‘contentment’ never comes easily. Even if it comes, many of us are not satisfied and want more.

So, we see books promote such desires and ways of attaining victory in every stage of life. Is it possible or practical?

Well. Today, I find most of the people are definitely in good stead and happy. Nevertheless, the desires never die. Profligacy drives them on many occasions.

Everything in life requires balance. Too much of anything is never good.

Good for development, but bad for individuals.
