An appropriate Prime Minister

Gujarat riots of 2002 pained me to such an extent that I would tell Modi fans that a one who can not safeguard life and property of a commoner has no right to rule. I never liked Manmohan Singh, who many people thought was an economic whizkid because he was being credited with economic reforms. I always felt that Shri Singh was nominal and nominated like Sheila Dikshit. I came to like Manmohan Singh much later for his calm and cool and unruffled manner. When people started hating Manmohan Singh for Indian economy, I thought it was but a natural corollary of the opening up of the economy. I felt people always like or dislike a person for wrong reasons. Many in my friends circle wonder why I would like to see Shri Naredra Modi as Prime Minister this time around when I was never a fan of Shri Modi. I was a critic rather. Being a very small man, I never understand the motivations of a Prime Ministrial candidate. I never understand why politicians fight it out so hard; and why they are so nasty in electioneering. But when I found everybody is up against this man Modi, I have started sympathising with him. I do not believe in politicians doing great things for us. I rather think people get political leadership they deserve. While Congress has been the mother of all political parties of India, it has not been able to come out of the Gandhi, Nehru, Gandhi clan. Many people probably do not understand that the two Gandhis are poles apart. Nationalist Congress of yore has a new avatar in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Congress is like the Democrats of USA  and BJP is like Republicans. Left parties are like Labour of Britain. But India has too many others like Mulayam, Mayawati, Lalu, Mamata, Jayalalita, Biju, making a complex polity. The whole social fabric is getting tattered. We are heading towards autocracy. Modiji is only symbolic. Has not a Mamata phenomenon pointing this out? Modi can not be worse than Lalu, Mulayam, Mayawati, Mamata, Jayalalita. I would have sympathised with Congress if it had projected Chidambaram as Prime Minister. Congress needs leadership. Not making Jyoti Basu prime minister two decades back has changed the whole course of the country. L K Advani would have been a good prime minister. If India rejects Modi now, very bad days will be ushered in. But again, sure enough, India will get a Prime Minister it deserves. What can a small man like this blogger or poor muslim do? We can only wish whoever is the Prime Minister will understand at least the soul of this great country of Nanak, Chaitanya, Kabir, Tagore and many others.
