Important Ayurvedic Tips for psoriasis

 

  1. Massage the affected parts with warm cold press sesame oil once in two days. Leave it for 20 minutes and wash it off with warm water.
  2. Always keep your skin moist. Apply plenty of oil based thick moisturizer many times.
  3. Do not use harsh soaps. Use gram flour or besan to scrub body. It helps to remove dead skin layers.
  4. Always wear cotton clothes. Cotton clothes absorb sweat and do not allow accumulation of dirt. This prevents infections. Say no to synthetic clothes.
  5. Use latex gloves when you work with detergents, floor cleaners or toilet cleaners. Wear a pair of gloves while chopping vegetables like onion, garlic, green chillies, ginger etc.
  6. Take care not to injure skin. Injuries always flare up psoriasis.
  7. If you are using room heaters in winter do not forget to use humidifier. Room heaters absorb the moistness of skin and make it dry.
  8. If you are working in air conditioned environment wear clothes which cover your body to keep warm. Cold environments flare up psoriasis
  9. Many medications may flare up the condition. Use them carefully.
  10. Obesity is another cause which slows down healing process of psoriatic patches. Hence keep a watch on your weight.
  11. Keep stress at bay. Psoriatic patches may increase with increased stress.
  12. Exercise regularly. Regular walking or aerobic exercises reduce stress, help to burn calories and improve circulation. All these are beneficial in healing process of psoriatic patches.
  13. Avoid foods which are sour, spicy and salty. Say no to radish, urad dal (Black gram), sesame, jaggery (gur), curd, fish and other sour foods.
  14. Keep a regular eating habit. Do not consume foods or practice lifestyles which cause indigestion.
  15. Do not control natural urges like passing urine, defecation, vomiting etc. According Ayurveda controlling natural urges lead to vitiation of doshas which in turn exaggerates psoriasis.
