Today (16th August 2026), the Bangladesh cricket team created history by way of their maiden test victory over Australia on Australian soil. More importantly, the team won by a big margin of nine wickets. Bangladesh’s success doesn’t come as a major surprise, as they are performing quite well in recent times. They scored a 2-0 series victory over Pakistan. In the World Test Championship Table, Bangladesh, with 66.7 percentile points, is in the fourth position and is above India, which has 48.1 percentile points.
The present article is written to focus mainly on the reasons for Australia’s downfall. The main reason, in my assessment, is the age factor. The Table below gives the ages of the eleven players who featured in the match.

All the players, except for Green, are above 30. The average age is 33.4.
Australia failed in all departments of the game. However, the major failure was in the bowling department, as evidenced by the fact that Bangladesh managed to score 428 runs in their first innings. Cummins, Starc, Lyon, and Hazlewood were the frontline bowlers. Their average age is 35.5, which is quite high for playing test cricket.
The bottom line is that Cricket Australia should give serious thought to this issue and unearth young talent, especially for the bowling department.
