No matter how seasoned and grounded certain friendships and relationships are, there is an opaque blur in their transparency and a translucent thread hidden in the denseness that needs a sidewise gleam to be appreciated. Relationships harbour expectations which can be mutually straining and that could smear the lucidity and the other way around.
It is a fallacy to believe that any two people can know each other completely. There is a lacuna (which is equally frustrating and convivial) in the presumed total empathy. Absolutely close and empathetic souls would find it unnerving and claustrophobic with no room for either to bloom and grow – stagnation.
Without adequate breathing space how could one grow tentacles to feel and understand the meaning of just being? That gap, which gives freedom to be one ’s self, opens doors to newer possibilities, leads to a place from where one can grow independe ntly of another echoing every emotion, every joy and sorrow.
Believing one can live entirely in another’s mind or have someone live constantly in yours and echo every sentiment, every groan and sigh is both scary and delusionary. There are times when each has to take his own path, roam around in the vastness of solitude where not a whisper of another’s breath can enter. There where one finds the slow unfolding of one’s soul, where sometimes joyously, sometimes agonisingly one learns to befriend the self.
