Making Noise in Public Places

I am afraid we live in the world of noise…not just noise that is tolerable or bearable. It goes up to the maximum decibels to the extent even if a totally deaf person also could feel the intensity of the noise through other indications, the sudden change of expression among the people around him, or the sudden nonstop continuous barking of dogs (yet another add on), the fluttering of some of the items around you or the sudden flying of birds which were sitting quiet nearby...

Why?

The public feels that they should express or demonstrate their presence through such highly irritating and shocking noise? It can be raucous laughter or loud arguments or simple shouting in chorus? This is in addition to the noise of various vehicles and two wheelers creating already.

I wonder if  living in
a polluted environment,
does the mind too
become polluted—
until it can
no longer
distinguish between
sound and noise?

In fact, I was taken aback by the boisterous laughter and screams of the so-called youngsters in a bar sometime back in Bengaluru. All seem to be educated and enlightened from the dresses and appearances. Because of the fat pay they get and the stressful brain work they do in the office, they seemed to let off the steam by such hoots, shouts and laughter.

The worst was in a Chennai hotel, once myself and my friend were shocked beyond words as shouts, laughter and screams assaulted our senses absolutely in the otherwise decent and calm dining hall. Please note that the noise was created here, not by youngsters but by well- dressed middle-aged women with decent looks.

Is this a psychological factor or just a sense of inferiority complex hidden among us to show that they are liberated by creating such loud and uncouth actions? Or is it the enormous freedom people enjoy because of the more than comfortable financial positions and great social life?

My trip across the beautiful river Mandovi in Goa a few years back was totally spoiled just because of the noise and loud shoutings of the youngsters in the deck above?

I don’t know how long this dismal condition will prevail in this so called culturally superior and holy country? The dopamine rush in the brains of these people to celebrate anything materialistic should make them go for such fancy and irritating shows. How sad!

Is this part of our hallowed Indian Culture?
