Dr. Tashmi Vyas

Mumbai,India

A millennial dentist with a deep and abiding love for cinema, particularly the golden era of Indian cinema from the 1950s through the 1970s. I enjoy exploring films across Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and other Indian languages, as well as world cinema - language is never a barrier when subtitles exist! I’m especially drawn to the artistry, performances, music, storytelling and cultural context of classic films.

Beyond simply watching films, I’m fascinated by film history and the people behind it. In addition to analysing the popular films with a different lens, I enjoy discovering lesser-known films, forgotten or underrated artists, vintage songs, and fascinating historical/behind the scenes trivia - anecdotes, while looking at classic cinema through a contemporary lens without losing sight of the craftsmanship and sensibilities of its time.

Beyond cinema, my interest extends to music, the arts, history, travel and culture, with an occasional interest in politics and social issues. I particularly enjoy thoughtful discussions, nostalgia and going down the occasional rabbit hole - whether it leads to a yesteryear artist, an obscure classic, a vintage melody, a piece of world cinema or an intriguing chapter of cultural history.
