Imagine going to see Niagara Falls. The sheer size and the giant sheet of water falling is so overwhelming that one feels insignificant. The only word that comes out of the mouth is wow as its beauty and size are incredible. Now let us imagine going to Krka National Park in Croatia, located at half an hour drive from the Sibenik port.

Now let us imagine going to Krka National Park to see the Skrandinski Buk waterfall there. It covers a huge landmass of 109 square meters. Here we don’t encounter the immensity of Niagara despite its huge spread, but one feels becoming one with the widespread blanket of waterfalls. These waterfalls cascading down the basin still produce an awe. This awe is not because of the sheer size of the waterfall, but because this blanket of falls has taken you in their embrace, making you a part of it.

When you are walking on the boardwalk there you get that feeling of not being separated from it. The sounds of gushing water making its way through the limestone rocks plus croaking sounds of the amphibians inhabiting with unique flora and fauna transports you through the immersion process without getting wet.

The wonderful trails offer an enchanting experience of nature and more specifically of water of life. The extensive walking trails cover a stretch of 47 kilometers, where one can easily spend the day walking there and soaking in its beauty. Out of this total distance, quite a major portion is over the wooden bridges over the falls, wetlands, and the lakes which is home to many amphibian species. Skrandinski Buk Waterfall is the longest and most visited waterfall on the Krka River. The water is crystal clear, which enables one even to see the fish in water having fun and enjoying their natural habitat.

This beautiful nature awe inducing wonder has a long history tracing back to prehistoric times. There are remnants of aqueducts from the Roman settlements of Saradona. Additionally, there are remnants of Roman military camps at Burnum. There are also ruins of medieval Croatian fortresses from the 14th century. The watermills from yesteryears add the glimpses of times before modernization through industrialization. Krka National Park was only declared as a national park of Croatia in 1985. So, its life span as a national park is only 40 years old. No wonder it is not as famous as Niagara Falls. But the natural beauty is stunning, and water falls are gorgeous.
