   The NRIs, Non-resident Indians
When they come to India,
What do they feel
Landing at the airport,
Should they move to their home
Or return back?

Where their home,
Who the kith and kin in waiting,
How the tale of adjustment,
Meeting people,
Searching for old acquaintances?

How the house left behind
Or bequeathed,
How their connections
Old and new
To be renewed or to be started?

Where the people who used to be
In the house,
Who the caretakers
Or on rent,
Where the landlord,
How the whispers taking place?

A guest in his own house,
A liability for the caretaker,
For how long to live
Or memorize old acquaintances,
Only faint memories linger on....

The sojourn is going to end,
Time too is drawing closer
As he has to return back
For the stomach, food and employment
As long as money is in the purse
The stay will be enjoyable, but till when?

When he gets over nostalgia,
Homesickness dismantled,
He gets ready,
Starts packing to go,
Searching for the passport and the visa
To be kept in the shirt pocket
To reach the airport to board some flight.

Saying goodbye to all,
Friends, relationships, acquaintances,
Ta-ta, bye-bye
With nostalgically yours,
Flying high, taking to wings,
God knows
Which is whose home,
What draws it for whom and for what?      |
