Peacock Feathers
by Vasanta Athilat

It is about time
that I call it a day
and lay away
to eternal rest
those Peacock feathers
of my yesterday

Excavate them
from an age old archive
place them,
shining threads of long ago
where they truly belong
out of the safely pressed
pages of my memory

Promises fake
of this florid world
innocence took them
for a pot of gold
awaiting
birth and rebirth
of peacock feathers
I kept them precious
away from rain
and out of sunshine

Flipping the pages
now I bewail
for offspring unborn
luster lost and all else
that was treasured once
their charm
ripping through
the weave of my fabric,
my make

Peeling the layers
of a barren dream
I unearth the vanity
of an open void
rose colored glasses
here I forsake
may be now
can I really appreciate
a living peacock's
vibrant feathers
its beauty
the dance
