Theme : Halloween
Party City
by Dr. Christine Redman-Waldeyer

Night chills bring me closer
and so we walk the isles side by
side searching new masks
My little one and I

On this – this Jack O’ Lantern
holiday

Hands that move,
Skeletons that jingle, ghosts
that run on lines

Wigs and brooms, capes
and pointed teeth – guns
and camouflage

And for the sweet, Cowboys
and Cinderella’s

But it wasn’t here
I found my shoes – but in a little shop
caught up in a tornado of church bazaars
and cameo pins

Where Victorian ghosts whisper
And WWII is caught in waves –
A bunker beneath a lantern

It’s there – Cape May where I found
my gypsy shoes which I’ll wear

for the goblins that day –
the day we’re putting on our red lights.
