I was told that this statue "Freedom of the Human Spirit" originally stood in the 1964 Fair's version of the Court of States. In 1996 it was renovated and resurfaced and moved to its present position which is between the main entrance to the Arthur Ashe US Tennis Center and the Unisphere. Freedom of the Human Spirit was sculpted by Marshall Fredericks. The male and female figures are unabashedly naked. According to Fredericks own words, (gathered from the web while doing research)
Another beautiful sculpture is the Rocket Shooter strategically placed on one of the radial avenues leading to the Unisphere. |
