Theme: Love

Never Say Never

It seemed like years, painfully endless,
Staring into an abyss that was once my Eden,
I cursed and hoped, wept and begged,
But you walked away never turning back,
Deaf as a rock, sure as dawn,
And in the end I said to myself,
Never, never again!

I’d like to say donkeys years later,
But no, just a few moons ago,
My eyes lit and the sun rose again,
I learnt to dance with the grace of a doe,
I found my voice and sang a song,
The village was soon buzzing,
And still raw and naïve I said to myself,
Never, never again!

I pinch myself again and again,
Crumbling in helpless abandon,
Bidding time to stop its mad rush,
As I drown in your beautiful gaze,
Lost in the gentleness of your voice,
And like a marked fugitive I lie to myself,
Never, never again!

Like a choking toddler I gasp,
At the thought of a new tomorrow,
We’ve built our nest on borrowed straw,
The stakes won’t hold eternity at bay,
So I hold on just long enough,
And kiss your lips just hard enough,
And dazed by love I lie to myself,
Never, never again!
