Age is Nice (Says Julia Roberts)

It may be unkind to say so,
but to all who have been beautiful,
beauty is a youthful phase,
and has an end;

for some extended period
the distinction blurred as to when
beauty ends decrepitude sets in,
the tension tangible

at around age 40,
the ghastly is in the mirror,
blended in the public eye
to beauty by repute.

Nature a task-master,
beauty, whose phase is youth, a lure,
driving hard, it appears at times
awkward and loud.

Age is nice, says Julia Roberts,
nature looks elsewhere, decrepitude
invents values, unlike youth
which values nothing.
