She was early the face of team GB:
Tonight, she was on the podium with gold:
It’s the kind of outcome that might be told
In a fairy tale, the reality
Brought home to her nation, such ecstasy
Might cause one to say, as in days of old,
‘It is of God!’ shining out in the world,
Rapt in the aura of divinity.

One’s own vicarious experience
Of triumphs of other nations that seem
Personal – Usain Bolt of USA,
For one – shows that in realms of excellence
Humanity is one, and on that day
We see each other, and it is no dream.
