Hope or Not to Hope

  What is hope ?
A ray of light amidst darkness.
A silver lining around the cloud.
A dawn at the threshold of night & morn.
Hope reminds you -
That darkness is on its way out
and the light on its way in.
That cloud will float away
opening up clear blue skies.
That it is time to greet the arriving morn and
say farewell to the departing night.

But what if.... the truth is that darkness is here to stay.
That the cloud is not a cloud but a permanent feature on
the sky of your life.
That you are at the threshold of dusk seeing off the day
and seeing in the night.
Of what use is hope at these times?
Hanging on to hope at such times drives you crazy.
It locks you up, makes you wait endlessly.

In such times, it is better to release yourself from the
chains of hope and do not hope.
And face up to the truth
and embrace the darkness that surrounds your life,
befriend the cloud that has become part of your life
And tell your woes to the night that is here to stay.
It may just be that very soon
you might find the strength to light up
a candle to bring some light in the night.
That is better than hanging on to a hope
of a morning that is never to arrive.
