Mother is Screaming

The Moon is late tonight.

Could it be she is hiding; afraid
Of what she will see?

The Earth is screaming again.

Pierced to her heart by another
Proud achievement of mankind.

Vesuvius steams and leads
His volcanic brothers in an outpouring
Of molten pain.

The Earth bleeds....

The forests are felled.

The four winds wail a lament.
Storm clouds weep for the lost ones.
The oceans heave in fury;
Waves rise in frantic despair.

Zeus bellows in anger; thunderous
Echoes sound around the globe.

And Atlas hears.

And Atlas sees.

And Atlas cries.

And Atlas, woken from a somnolent state;
Shakes a mighty fist at mankind's arrogance.
