Lightning

Light from the dark clouds Damini, light the darkness Tear the gloom with tears and trauma; We see a phoenix emerging out of Your throes, the song, the dirge for the brute, Inspired tens of thousands with fortitude, they felt, they shivered, They came out on the pavements, the concrete pavements, Braving the rods of khaki and khap They, the khaki and khap brandished lathis and lashed at The public honour of the protesters who Waited peacefully in front of the solid colonial monolith, Soaked in the glory of the gory past (Old, vain, elusive, unpredictable, scheming....Heads) Shocked young women and men With placards demanding the change For the daughters of today Their freedom and rights, with eyes up And jaws firm will walk on the roads of life Knifing the gaze of a rapist's sick head We wish you health and strength And Happiness in the New Year!
