  An eye for an eye
and a tooth for a tooth
are popular politics.
Elected governments
are cornered by opposition
and media sentinels
to act
even in decisions like capital punishment.

The result:
A fresh bout of meaningless retributions.
This is the pitfall of democracy.
Democracy or mobocracy?
Right-thinking people are less.
They are overpowered always
by greedy, streetwise, noisy masses
in democracy.
They will suffer no doubt.

Most times we do not know what is good for us.
We do our own undoing.
History therefore is a series of human foibles.
Alas!
We must therefore have God to protect us.
