Truth is a red rose
that pleases each and every heart,
while a poor thorn, perhaps like a small lie,
is no less a source, why can’t one try,
of both pain and pleasure.
The other day
after shopping for a few stuffs,
I was so attracted by the charming smiles
of the girl at the cash counter
that I quite forgot the balance to collect
and returned home full of her thoughts
recollecting the sweet way she spoke!
When I placed the stuffs
on our kitchen counter,
it took no time for my queen to discover,
‘As usual got cheated again, curse me!
You have paid a lot more…’
Getting back from the dreamland
soon I landed in a crisis, but saved the day
by blurting, ‘Price of each stuff has gone up.
Common man is at the receiving end,
will such a situation in our country ever reverse?’
A diplomatic victory! Poor she was quite convinced
by my small lie. Hardly she realized,
beauty was still lingering in my eye!
‘True’, exclaimed she,
Is there anyone to keep the inflation down?’
‘Yes’, I silently thought, ‘if alone I didn’t
get trapped by her looks, silk-soft locks
and smiles at the cash counter
and collected the remaining bucks,
the inflation would not have flared up.’
A small lie, though I regret to have said,
saved what could have been a turbulent situation,
and helped us to enjoy a hug after candle-light dinner.
Aren’t both the roses and thorns essential in nature?
