Man and Tree

Each and every tree has within it
an indestructible core.

Look beyond the falling leaves that flutter in the wind,
beyond the branches, the trunk, the roots,
All the way down to and past were the seed once lay,
Through substance and into non-substance,
from Something into Nothing,
That is, from where it came,
and to where it will go.

The leaves are at one with the wind,
they are swayed by it,
taken by it,
the soft wind,
the biting wind,
The uncertain wind that tends towards chaos,
That claims the leaves and rips the branches,
and torments the trunk from its roots.

The roots are at one with the earth,
the warm earth,
nourishing the soul,
Blessed with the essence of water,
Serving as the foundations of life,
the soil of life,
That can also turn and become dry,
and split,
And become the foundations of the fall.

The core, the essence, the heart and soul,
The spirit is at one with Everything
and Nothing.
While the tree may shed its leaves,
break its branches,
curl its roots,
It is always there,
still and unmoving,
Changing yet immovable,
motionless yet in motion,
Always growing towards the wisdom of the tree,
perfection,
And then the fall,
when it shall still be unmoved,
The tree having faded into
Eternity,
into Everything,
into Nothing,
Still unmoved,
Always drifting towards
perfection,
Already manifested through this potential:
perpetual becoming always become,
at one with Everything,
The calm sea before and after
the storm,
The still earth before and after
the rain,
The vacant mountain before and after
the split,
all at once,
and always present.
