Supplication

How should I put it?
that you choose to
stretch your arm
and reach for my supplication.

How do you decide to listen?
eyes closed with a hand under your chin
or you look elsewhere
from my begging.

I have reached a point
in life where I knock
your door out of habit,
it may not please you.

Then tell me what pleases you,
for as long as my knock
goes unheard, I will be a constant
nag at your door.

I could beg you to spare me
a knock, this one time
but then there
will be another reason.

You don’t lay a choice
before a beggar.
I will keep on asking
for all sorts of reasons.

And you will keep on giving,
in the end we do come to
to know the secret we are born with:
seeking and begging well.
