Little Lamp

You have not lit my life
As the sun illuminates the day.
But,
Like the little lamp
You shed a gentle radiance
That suffuses the gloomy void in my heart.
Like the steady north star,
Your comforting presence
Always,
Guides my faltering step
And unerringly leads me
To my lost self.
An effulgent loveliness within you
Brings out the best in me
And
Without chains or stranglehold,
Binds me to you
In the flightless freedom of Friendship.
