False Ceilings

  False ceilings
are all about
the lives of our roofs.

Guarding against
sun, rain and hail,
cracking, leaking
and breaking down
with time and
sudden upheavals.

False ceilings are
chin ups when
the chips are down,
are lies
hiding the relationship of my roof
with your ceiling.

I insist on a log roof
without a false ceiling,
you have gone
for both.

Hard rustable bars in mortar
and a fake chipboard to cover.
In visibly weak moments I
would replace a log
that cracks,
for each night
before you put
the lights off
for me
I will gaze at my roof with intent
and inspection.

Your choice would
come down in one happening
leaving you roofless
and without even a false ceiling.
