Is it enough
to stand by
when wrinkles
raid your hands
and lifeline escapes
my loosening fist.

Maybe so,
when you
sit back fat
on a rocking chair
and worry beads
spill in your lap.

Or when you
battle and win
your yearnings
and I retreat
lock stock and soul
from your love and war.

Perhaps, in time,
when you fold
your hands,
or place one under
your chin
to look forward in the past
this ring will leave a mark.

Comment A very well and sensitively composed poem with moving expressions on aging. Please do check out my poem "Four Seasons and Stages of Life!" on a similar theme posted here:
