Is It All True?

Is it all true my ever-loving friend –
The light of my eyes is like lightning flashes
Of dark storm clouds
My luscious lips are rosy
As the blushes of adolescent love
Tell me is it true, my ever-loving friend?

I have blossomed like a lovely flower without compare
In every step of my feet sweet music rings
When I am not seen
In dew drops the night weeps
The morning light is full of joy after I rise
And the air is mad like a drunkard
To cool my face –
Tell me, O my ever-loving friend
Are all these true?

Transcreation of the love song – Eki satya sakali satya, he amar chira-bhakta – by Rabindranath Tagore. In fact these are two stanzas taken from a Balaka poem and turned into a song to be used in one of his dance dramas. Best recording is by Sagar Sen.
