I Love You

The words hang in the air, like the late
night fog which shrouds the lake.
I love you
I said it, although the thought has been constant
in my mind lately,
I never intended the words to leave my lips,
to be spoken or heard by the world
....or by you.
I said it....and I cannot unsay it....
nor do I know if I wish to.
I only know that it scares me.
Thoughts of you fill my mind....
my entire being with
feelings of ecstasy,
yet trepidation lingers....
for I have laid my heart and soul
open to you.....
....for you to
accept
or reject.
