Lovers’ Quarrel

Silent sands are simmering as I stare out
sole flying creature is time
steered by wings of sun

Not long ago
light passed over veiled border
moisture mated with cool zephyr
tiny puddle formed
contoured by cluster of rat tail cacti

Sparrow dipped his beak
splashing droplets by the millions
onto his feathers

Rainbow still hangs on top of cacti
as I stare out silent sands are simmering
potent snakes scorpions lay
beneath surface

All is quiet but
for an occasional bursting out
of newfangled cactus
