When Franchise is Exercised

It’s utterly strange the way I feel,
To see the change in destiny’s reel.

Once who’re moving in the wheels,
Now down the feet of the pauper they kneel.

The riff-raff have the power, they get to exercise,
at least once in five years carefully and the way of the wise.

It’s democracy, the gift from the civilised.
Even the stalwarts are downsized, when franchise is exercised.
